FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S)

 

 

  1. When can I apply for the scholarship?

 We accept applications each year from 1 January – 1 March.

 

  1. When will I learn whether or not I got the scholarship?

Scholarships are evaluated and notifications are forwarded by email NLT 15 March. Winners are provided with a letter and a form to complete and return within 2 weeks. The form requires information regarding the name and address of school, college, university or trade school to include student account number. This ensures that the award is mailed to the student’s account.

 

  1. Do I have to already be admitted to a school to apply?

You must have and include your letter of acceptance from a school, college, university or trade school included in your application package. It is a requirement. Without it, your application will be considered incomplete and will not be evaluated.

 

  1. What can I use the scholarship for?  Can I use it for room and board?

 Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, room and board, fees, and off campus living expenses. They may not be used to pay off student loan debt.

 

  1. If I have already received a scholarship can I apply again?

If you receive this scholarship award, you are eligible to apply next year providing you meet all other requirements.  However, winning the award one year neither guarantees, nor precludes you from winning it another. You must compete each time you apply.

 

  1. Do I have to apply online, or can I print and mail an application?

 Either an online or a mailed application is acceptable. 

 

  1. How are the applications judged?

 Applications are usually judged by a committee. 

 

  1. Will I receive a receipt for my donation?

 Yes. You will receive a letter of appreciation for your donation which also serves as your tax-exempt receipt to be filed with your tax return. This receipt is especially important for your income tax return if you donated a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

 

  1. Can I write a check to donate?

Yes!  Make your check payable to: THE A&V TULLOSS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION and mail to PO BOX 22492, NEWPORT NEWS, VA 23609-2492

 

  1. Can I donate with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?

  Yes!  Have your qualified account holder issue a check made payable to: THE A&V TULLOSS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION and mail to: PO BOX 22492, NEWPORT NEWS, VA 23609-2492
